Visual arts are important to children’s literature. This importance is most obvious in the way books are illustrated, in picture books, and in movies and cartoons. This conference will look at the various forms this relationship between visual arts and children’s literature takes.
Proposals are invited for papers and panel discussions on this topic. Topics may include:
- modern children’s book illustration
- classic illustrators
- illustrations and illustrators that cross borders and barriers between cultures
- relationships between different art forms and books for children
Papers or Panel Discussions should allot no more than 30 minutes for each presentation, including a 20-minute presentation and a 10-minute discussion. All papers are required to be written and presented in English. Please submit 500-word abstracts, saved as “abstract – [your name]”, by email with the subject line “Abstract for Children’s Literature Conference”. Be sure also to send your abstract with the abstract submission form (without your name on the second page for the abstract) by e-mail to mdesmet@thu.edu.tw.
