“A Hundred Years of Peter Pan and Wendy” International Conference
Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain
Facultad de Filología
14 and 15 March 2011

Even if by its very nature Peter Pan has become the symbol of timelessness, this character’s history has very specific origins and will by 2011 literally come of age. Peter and Wendy’s centenary celebration may sound like an oxymoron, but it also seems to us the perfect occasion to reflect on what, after all, it might mean not to want to grow up but not being able to help it. J.M. Barrie’s masterpiece has in fact grown, very much so; it has grown across criticisms, disciplines and media. Peter Pan and Wendy has not only received attention as a literary work but also as a cultural icon, if only to mention the various remakes it has inspired in world cinema, as graphic and illustrated novels or even as a very contemporary pathology which keeps bringing us back to Neverland.

Plenary Speakers include:
Professor R.D.S. Jack (University of Edinburgh) author of The Road to the Never Land: A Reassessment of J M Barrie’s Dramatic Art (2010)

All those interested please send a 500 word abstract to congresopeterpan@gmail.com before January 15, 2011.
