Social Relations in Turbulent Times – ESA 10th Conference

Description of the Research network: The Research Network aims to bring together scholars across Europe who are engaged in both theoretical and empirical work on children and childhood. There have been successful Sociology of Childhood Streams at the last six ESA Conferences (1999-‐2009). The general theme of the 2011 conference is ‘social relations in turbulent times,’ and the various sessions will address children’s lives and social relations in the context of societal change.
General call for paper: The Research Network aims to bring together scholars across Europe who are engaged in both theoretical and empirical work on children and childhood. We have organised successful Sociology of Childhood Streams at the last six ESA Conferences (1999-2009). The general theme of the 2011 conference is ‘social relations in turbulent times,’ and the various sessions will address children’s lives and social relations in the context of societal change. We invite abstracts on the following themes:
- Children’s social relations and everyday lives
- Children as victims, witnesses and perpetrators of crime and violence
- Children and migration
- Child poverty and child work
- Children’s rights, citizenship and participation
- Trust dynamics in children’s lives
- Theoretical and methodological issues in researching childhood and children’s lives
Open theme Network activities planned for the Conference also include a round-‐table event ‘childhood sociology meets international organizations’, plus the annual meeting of the Network and a social event.
Abstracts (200 words maximum) will only be accepted through completion of the online submission form, available at the conference website: www.esa10thconference.com. The deadline for receipt of abstracts is 25 February 2011. Decisions on acceptance will be conveyed by 26 March 2011.
