AMECYS Call for Panels, Roundtables, Thematic Conversations and Special Issues Sessions at MESA 2018
San Antonio, Texas, November 15-18

AMECYS internal deadline: Friday, January 19
MESA external deadline: Thursday, February 15

The Association of Middle East Children’s and Youth Studies (AMECYS) calls those engaged in the study of children and youth in the region to propose AMECYS-sponsored panels, roundtables, thematic conversations and special issues sessions at the Middle East Studies Association (MESA) of North America’s annual meeting in San Antonio, Texas, November 15-18.

Proposals can be submitted in any capacity that aligns with AMECYS’ mission statement:

The AMECYS is a private, non-profit, international association for scholars with an interest in the study of children and youth in the Middle East, North Africa and their diasporic communities. Through interdisciplinary programs, publications, and services, AMECYS promotes innovative scholarship, facilitates global academic exchange, and enhances public understanding about Middle Eastern children and youth in diverse times and places.

The AMECYS program chair and appointed committee will review all proposals submitted by members of AMECYS in good standing, but will give preference to those that are submitted collectively (depending on the format, 3-4 panelists, chair, etc.). AMECYS may offer feedback on the proposals, but sponsorship by AMECYS does not guarantee conference acceptance. See MESA’s call for papers instructions for information on the session formats one can submit:

Collective proposals should include 1) title page with title of panel, participants’ names, affiliations and email addresses, 2) a 300-400 word panel abstract and for pre-organized panels 3) 300-400 word abstracts for each individual paper presenter in one PDF file. Proposals should be sent to by Friday, January 19.

Selected proposals will be uploaded by the proposal convener(s) in conjunction with the program chair by the external MESA deadline of Thursday, February 15, to be reviewed by the MESA program committee. If accepted, the panel will read as AMECYS sponsored in the 2018 meeting program.
