Child playing with a bird. Marble, Roman variation on an Hellenistic type

It’s usually asserted that the Greeks of the Hellenistic period (after the death of Alexander the Great) exhibited a new interest in children and/or valued them more than they had before. It’s just not true.

The University of Winnipeg New Directions in Classics presents its third speaker of 2018, Emeritus Professor of Classics Mark Golden, who will give a presentation titled “Children in Hellenistic Greece.”

When: Friday, March 16; 3:30PM – 4:30PM
Where: Room 3D01 (Duckworth Centre)

All are welcome; light refreshments provided. Please email Dr. Peter Miller, pj.miller@uwinnipeg, for more details.
